21 Gull, Shelduck, Blue Tit, Canada Goose, Redshank, Skylark, Mute Swan, Teal, Cormorant, Reed Bunting, Meadow Pippit, Golden Plover, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Crested Grebe, Kestrel, Goldeneye, Oystercatcher, Crow. Abberton Goldeneye, Pintail, Corn Bunting, Wigeon, Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Reed Bunting, Mallard, Yellowhammer, Teal, Chaffinch, Pochard, Great Crested Grebe, Ruddy Duck, Gadwall and Goosander were among those species seen at this venue. The afternoon had turned colder and with the inevitable wind which always seems to whistle across the causeway members beat a hasty retreat home. Not an altogether 'exciting' day's bird watching, but nevertheless very enjoyable, especially the good views of a fox which kept us entertained for some time. MARGARET VERNON BIRD GROUP MEETING, LITTLE BADDOW, 25RD APRIL, 1989 Only five members met on a cool, generally overcast morning to walk along the towpath of the Chelmer and Blackwater Canal but, since the purpose of the meeting was to observe spring migrants, they were unusually well rewarded before even starting by seeing a Ring Ousel, doubtless on passage, feeding in a field of young wheat close to the road.
