vi. The Committee should work to a management plan flexible enough to accommodate the ecological changes it induces: a strong nature conservation policy needs to be injected into Forest management to ensure the survival of its traditional habitats and their wildlife. The Nature Conservancy and the Conservators discussed plans for management of the Forest in 1955, and the Nature Conservancy Council made general recommendations to the Conservators in 1976. After this publication the Conservators may wish to convene a meeting of specialists to advise on the conservation of wildlife as part of Forest management for the next hundred years. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Thanks are due to Dr M. George, Nature Conservancy Council, P. A. Moxey, Epping Forest Conservation Centre, and Dr O. Rackham, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, for their help in the preparation of this paper. The views expressed are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of the Nature Conservancy Council.
