From a photograph first published in 1910. meetings, usually five annually from April to September, with the celebrated Fungus Foray in Epping Forest annually in mid-October and for a time, the Cryptogamic Foray in November, until inclement weather so often made this Cryptogamic Foray unpopular at that time of the year. In March 1935, Mr John Salmon (member 1928-46) was appointed "Excursions Secretary", thus relieving the writer from this duty, since he had been appointed Hon. Treasurer after the death of Mr John Avery in February of that year; John Avery had served the Club as Hon. Treasurer for 17 years. In 1950, a rather primly-worded resolution was passed whereby the term "Excursion" was to be replaced by "Field-meeting", in the title of the relevant Secretary. 11
