Hypercallia citrinalis (Scop.) NRR., before 1819. Polygala. Probably extinct in Essex. "I have a
remarkably fine pair that were taken a year or two previously [to 1819] in Essex"(Stephens,
1834: 195). The species favours calcareous soils and 57-67 the Purfleet-Grays district seems a
probable locality, lying only 10 miles from an extant colony in Kent.
Carcina quercana (Fabr.) Res., 1871-1980. Polyphagous on trees. Wdspd and v.c. 49 *Loughton
(Machin, 1871e).
Pseudatemelia josephinae (Toll) (Tubuliferola josephinae (Toll)) Res., 1932-1978. Leaf-litter.
Loc.; degree of abundance not known. Separated from P. flavifrontella in 1956 and recognised
as British in 1966. Old records such as "an extensive range" (VCH) may refer to either species.
Flies from late June to mid-August.
