Olethreutinae With some species the wing-pattern differs little from that of the Tortricinae, but in the majority the central fascia is obsolescent, its place being taken by strigulae on the costa. Many species have a conspicuous pale blotch in the middle of the dorsum and another character which is frequently present is the ocellus; this consists of a more or less circular marking in the tornal area, usually enclosing fine, dark horizontal lines and often outlined in slightly metallic scales. Habits are too varied for generalisation of practical value to be made. The larvae are mostly monophagous or oligophagous and may feed internally or externally within spinnings on almost any part of the plant, though each species feeds in a constant manner. Some adults fly in sunshine, some are crepuscular and others again are nocturnal. There are 225 British species, including those which are vagrant, adventive or of doubtful authenticity; 170 of these have been recorded in Essex. Genera and species are listed in the order given by Bradley & Fletcher (1979), not that of Kloet & Hincks (1972). Celypha striana ([D. & S.]) Res., (1889)-1980. Taraxacum.
