Loc. c. at the edge of the saltings. First recognised as British from specimens taken by S. Wakely at Burnham-on-Crouch (Pierce & Metcalfe, 1935). However, the moth had been known for many years and. though classed as a form of B. lancealana, some writers had suspected that it might be distinct. It is figured under the name B. dibeliana Hubn, by Wood (1854: pl. 57, fig. 1791). Wilkinson (1859: 146-147) described it from specimens taken near Southend by S. Stevens. Barrett (1905: 130) refers to it as a salt-marsh form. Specimens exist in old collections, e.g. a series taken at Benfleet on 26 June 1908 by GHC in Thurnall's collection.
