Hypochalcia ahenella ([D. & S.]) ?Vag., 1912-1971. Helianthemum, Artemisia campestris. The absence of foodplants from south-east Essex suggests that the moth wanders from Kent. Cirsium, etc. Wdspd and v.c. 88 *Southend (Stainton, 1859). Ectomyelois ceratoniae (Zell.) Adv., perhaps temporary res., 1933-1964. Dried fruits, nuts cereals. Sometimes c. in East London warehouses and liable to turn up anywhere. VC 18. 88 'Westcliff-on-Sea, single adults in 1933, 1958 and 1964 (HCH; Huggins, 1959). Pempelia dilutella (Hubn.) ?Vag., 1871-1872. Thymus drucei; since this is almost absent from south-west Essex, the moth is unlikely to have bred locally. VC 18.49 *Loughton (Machin, 1871e; 18724873b; VCH). Gymnancyla canella ([D. & S.]) NRR., (1854)-(1903). Salsola kali. V. loc. and r.; the foodplant persists (Jermyn, 1974: 75) and the moth may do likewise. A retired part of the Essex coast (Harwood, 1880-1881); 11 Clacton-on-Sea (VCH). Alispa angustella (Hubn.) Res., c. 1910-1980. Euonymus europaeus. Loc. f.c., mainly on the north-western chalk. VC 19.53 Saffron Walden; 63 Lindsell; 63 Thaxted (AME); 23 *Harwich district (GFM). Ancylosis oblitella (Heterographis oblitella) (Zell.) Mig. until c.1956; 1956-1978 res. Chenopodiaceae. Wdspd and c. along the Thames estuary, loc. and r. further inland. 88 *Westcliff-on-Sea (HCH). The first resident population was found by HCH and RWJU at 78 Pitsea in 1956.I have received no record since 1978. Nyctegretis achatinella (Hubn.) NRR., (1903). Ononis. Could reappear as it is f.c. on the Suffolk coast. VC 19. St Osyth, once bred in some numbers (VCH); two specimens taken by Harwood in coll. Whittle and 10 labelled "Essex" in coll. Adkin are probably from this locality. Tutt (1908: 52) also gives St Osyth. Euzophera cinerosella (Zell.) Res., 1905-1977. Artemisia absinthium. V. loc. f.c.
