PTEROPHORIDAE Medium-sized to large moths characterised (except in Agdistis) by having the forewing divided into two and the hindwing into three lobes. They have slender bodies and very long legs. The majority are crepuscular or nocturnal, but a few fly naturally in sunshine and all may be readily disturbed by day. Most of the larvae are short, stout and hairy, somewhat resembling those of the Lycaenidae. Some feed exposed or in spinnings on the leaves of their foodplant; others eat flowers or seeds or mine in the stems. Many of the pupae are also hairy and resemble the larvae; they are usually attached to a silken pad on a stem or the surface of a leaf rather like those of butterflies. The family is 151
