Resident, widespread and very common. Common Rustic Mesapamea secalella Remm Lesser Common Rustic Resident, widespread and fairly common. This species was separated from M. secalis only in 1983. It is slightly smaller than M. secalis (figured by Skinner, 1984), but can be reliably distinguished from it only by examination of the genitalia. The habits of the two species are similar and they occur together. Independent sampling in 1984 by DJLA in the south and east and by AME in the north showed that M. secalella was present wherever the search was made but formed only about 5% of the combined population.
