Deer Distribution
The annual deercounts for 1996 and 1997 did not cover the main part of the
forest and so cannot be used here. However, the Langbein report (1996),
investigated deer numbers north of High Beach and including Great Monk-
Wood and a study carried out in May 1997 by Avery, covered a similar area.
The results comprise records of sightings and estimates based on droppings, slots
and browse effects. These results were used to map deer presence in the northern
part of the main forest.
