1894 Latticed Heath Semiothisa clathrata L. Had an astonishing year. A massive
emergence or migration in late August was noted along the north-east
Essex coast. Several recorders had counts above 1,000 per night in their
traps and Reg Arthur at St Osyth had a final tally of 10,000. Graham
Smith estimated 8,000 - 10,000 in a single lucerne field at Dengie on 21
August and Don Down found hundreds of larvae in different stages of
development on 23 August at a lucerne field near Latchington. 68 DBR
