The Essex Naturalist 101 Genus: Lasius. There are records for nine of the ten currently accepted British species. Lasius alienus s.l. National status Local [L. alienus Foerster & L. psammophilus Seifert] Seifert (1992) has recently split L. alienus s.l. into two species found in Britain L. alienus (Foerster) and L. psammophilus Seifert. It has been possible to examine most of the Essex specimens of L. alienus s.l. and we appear to have both species in the county although they are rare. An older record for Havering-Atte-Bower Roundhouse (TQ5093) in 1984 by the Passmore Edwards Museum Survey Team has not been critically examined. Barrett (1979) shows a pre 1961 record for TM02 and post 1961 record for TL70.
