110 The Essex Naturalist Barrett (1979) shows a pre 1961 record for TM02 and a post 1961 record for TL70. Pre 1961 records for TQ38 and TQ 39 may be in Essex. Habitat and Ecology Collingwood (1979) describes this species as nesting under boulders, in tree stumps and at the base of old trees. Single queens found colonies by adoption in nests of ants in the L. niger complex. Workers are subterranean and the species may well be under-recorded. Threats The records from several sites in one area of the county suggests that the population is secure and the species is not under threat at the present time. References Alexander, K.N.A., 1998.
