Hawkwell Brickpits - Seven species Situated north of Southend-on-Sea between Rochford and Rayleigh. Species recorded are: Chorthippus albomarginatus Metrioptera roeselii Chorthippus parallelus Tettigonia viridissima Conocephalus dorsalis Tetrix undulata Meconema thalassinum This area may well have changed since my last visit due to development. Purfleet Ranges/Aveley Marshes - Seven species Bordering the River Thames close to Dagenham. Species recorded are: Chorthippus albomarginatus Leptophyes punctatissima Chorthippus brunneus Metrioptera roeselii Chorthippus parallelus Pholidoptera griseoaptera Conocephalus dorsalis Grays Chalk Pit and associated Pits at Warren Lane and Millwood - Seven species Situated close to Grays and a mile or so from the River Thames, these areas are changing constantly due to development. It is probable that significant changes have taken place recently, which may have resulted in habitat loss. Species recorded are: Chorthippus brunneus Pholidoptera griseoaptera Chorthippus parallelus Tetrix subulata Leptophyes punctatissima Tetrix undulata Metrioptera roeselii Walthamstow Marshes - Seven species Situated north of Hackney Marsh in the River Lea area, it obviously has potential for futher species to be recorded. All records were received after 31 December 1995 and are not included in the text or maps elsewhere in this publication. Chorthippus albomarginatus Metrioptera roeselii Chorthippus brunneus Tetrix subulata Chorthippus parallelus Tetrix undulata Conocephalus dorsalis Lea Valley Country Park Since I left Essex some years ago, this area has continued to develop and is becoming a very rich habitat. I have no doubt that many species are within the Essex side of the Country Park (it also extends into Hertfordshire), and is an area that deserves, and would I'm sure, repay extensive field work.
