Biological data recorded from our nature reserves are very important for both conservation and habitat management, but in many cases even charismatic and easily-observed species are under-recorded. Biological recording is vital to understand the status of species to ensure resources are allocated in protecting them and their habitats. The distribution of species on Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserves is important to help positive management and to reduce adverse management towards the species. Without such data it is difficult to undertake the correct management. Essex Wildlife Trust currently manages 87 nature reserves and 1 nature park covering over 7,200 acres of land. The Trust has a continuous process of reviewing its management activities and management plans for its reserves. Management of reserves is directed to Essex Field Club Newsletter No. 59, May 2009 21
