Belhus, Aveley / Magnificent Thorndon / Hylands, Widford Hylands, Widford The house built in the Queen Anne style 1728-30, from an engraving c. 1770. The easl and west wings and elegant portico, possibly suggested by Humphry Repton, have yet to be added. The map, sun-eyed 1772 - 74, shows a small c. 100 acre wood-pasture estate surrounded by a park pale. The dashed line shows approximately the current boundary of the park. Note the site of Hooks, demolished in the 19th century, and the public roads crossing the estate, closed by later owner John Attwood in the 1840s. (Engraving c. 1770. Map 1777).
