Diptera at Hylands Park
Diptera on Ivy at Hylands
Ivy is a particularly useful nectar source, attracting many insects late in the year. Hylands currently
has Ivy in some quantity - particularly on the perimeter wall of the kitchen garden and in the formal
gardens. The following flies were recorded on Ivy during September - November 2001 and 2002
from the formal gardens. Hornets were a notable predatory species on the Ivy - seen taking Eristalis
tenax and other flics.
