A species resident in Scotland and Ireland, there are two old and unconfirmed English records so this may well be new to England. Its presence in Dovercourt may be the result of ship-borne assistance from the ports of Harwich or Felixstowe, or as a genuine migrant from Scandinavia from which the prevailing wind had been blowing for several days (Gibson, C. pers. comm). The specimen was taken to The Natural History Museum, London by J.B. Fisher where K.R. Tuck made the determination. New to Essex. 1 DBR 1171 Gypsonoma minutana Hb. Dovercourt, 7 August (C. Gibson det. B. Goodey). First north east Essex record since the turn of the century. 1 DBR 1227 Pammene inquilina Fletch. Beaumont-cum-Moze, 23 May (J.B. Fisher). Another moth submitted to Tuck at The Natural History Museum, London. There arc very few British specimens of this poorly-known species, which may be associated with Larix decidua, but it is easily overlooked and likely to be resident in the county. Tuck is to preparing an account of its capture together with a diagram of the genitalia which should aid further recording. New to Essex. 1 DBR Essex Naturalist (New Series) 16 (1999)
