cites eight post-1970 records and there arc a further two on my card index file. Apart from the
Epping area there is evidence of a decline, although it was never a common insect in Essex. 1

1716 Vestal Rhodometra sacraria L. At least ten specimens of this migrant have been reported.
The first was at Markshall. Coggeshall on 23 May (N. Cuming and J. Firmin), which may
indicate an early wave that gave rise to a second generation of which the following may be
