Freshwater Invertebrate Report 1998/2000 Coelambus impressopunctatus Hygtotus inaequalis Anacaena globulus Ephemeroptera Cloeon dipterum Trichoptera Phryganea bipunctata Odonata Ischnura elegans Diptera/Chironomidae Chironomus dorsalis Mollusca Physa sp. Also collected here but not identified were Oligochaetes and Dytiscus larvae. No amphibians were noticed here. Molluscs were noticeably absent, certainly a reflection of low pH. Further sampling will take place on the Galleywood freshwaters. Many thanks to those who attended and to Pam and Peter Wilson for beetle and bug identification. Leeches Martin Hayward has brought to my attention a large leech, a group I am not too familiar with. It came from a garden pond at Cold Norton and was between 8 and 10 cm long when at rest. At times, it resembled an earthworm in shape and had a well-developed clitellum. Only one pair of eyes was evident although these can be very difficult to see in living specimens. There was no patterning or pigmentation and the whole animal was pale olive. I suspect it was Trocheta subviridis. Any ideas, please let me know. In all an improvement in recording which I hope we can continue. Many thanks to those who have sent in records; please keep them coming. Also please feel free to send in freshwater invertebrates. I may not get to look at them quickly but will eventually. Essex Naturalist (New Series) 17 (2000)
