learning more about the management of grasslands in general. It is hoped that this work will be
reported in future volumes of The Essex Naturalist.
Conclusion
The protection and management of Fernhills and Trueloves as Forest Land have ensured the
establishment of a wildlife-rich grassland area larger than the Roding Valley Meadows Nature
Reserve. In fact, the area (22 hectares) makes this new section of Forest one of the top ten largest
inland grassland sites in Essex. Its conservation is a significant achievement.
