204 Myriapoda: a review of their status in Essex Lithobius microps Meinert One of the smallest lithobiomorph centipedes and frequently found in gardens and urban sites, but also with a wide range of habitat preferences (Barber & Keay 1988). It is frequently encountered in various locations in Essex and the large gaps in the north-west and south-eastern parts of the county must be a reflection of under-recording. Family Henicopidae Lamycetes fulvivornis Meinert A widespread centipede in Britain, particularly in northern and upland areas but found in a wide variety of habitats. The only known Essex site is at Temple Mills, an old railway marshalling yard (TQ369866) where the species was found by the author on 25 June 1999 and in traps between 27 July and 19 August 1999. Acknowledgements The distribution maps have been produced using DMAP, a mapping program developed by Dr Alan Morton. The author is very grateful to Steve J. Gregory for providing the records he made in Essex in 1991,1992 and 1994 and for his help in the identification of specimens and many helpful comments in getting the author started with myriapods. I am also grateful to Ray Ruffell for providing me with his records and to Colin Plant for access to records in the database of the former Passmore Edwards Museum.
