Review of the Lepidoptera of Essex for the year 2000 1019 Cnephasia conspersana Douglas Dovercourt, Oakley Road, 27 July (C. Gibson). Very local in Essex. This is the first VC 19 record since 1976 at Colne Point. In South Essex there are records from Maldon in 1977 and most recently at Bradwell-on-Sea in 1993. 1095 Apotomis sororculana (Zetterstedt) Great Leighs, Mann Wood, 30 June (D. Boyle, BM(NH)). New to VC19. There arc several records from South Essex, most recently in 1977. The larvae feed on the leaves of Betula. 1195 Eucosma lacteana (Treitschke) Dovercourt, Oakley Road, five between 18 and 19 August (C. Gibson). Larvae feed on Artemisia maritima, which has declined on the Essex coast. 1227 Pammene giganteana (Peyerimhoffi Epping Forest, 26 March (G Martin). First record from this area of Essex for c. 100 years. Larvae feed in the galls of Quercus. Pyralidae 1374a Sclerocona acutellus (Eversmann) Bradwell-on-Sea. Curry Farm, 15 June (A.J. Dewick). A rare migrant, new to Essex. 1403a Duponchelia fovealis Zeller Kirby-le-Soken 17 March (P. Bergdahl). Second from this site, the first was in September 1997. Probably imported with nursery house plants. 1408 Palpita vitrealis (Rossi) Bradwell-on-Sea, Curry Farm, 26 August and 23 September (Dewick 2001). Pieridae 1545 Colias croceus (Geoffroy) Clouded Yellow Appeared at eight sites in mid-June and again from August to September. This included mated pairs at Canvey Island on 16 June (D.G Down) and Bathside Bay, Harwich on 1 Septembei" (C. Gibson), and a total of 25 at Jaywick (J. Young), 67 at Martin's Farm, St Osyth (R.W. Emmet) and twice at Saffron Walden, in 1983 and 1996 (A.M. Emmet). Presumed vagrants. 1855 Eupithecia phoeniceata (Rambur) Cypress Pug Frinton-on-Sea, 10, 11 and 19 August (B. Lock). Known from four other sites recently, all in the north-east.
