The flies (Diptera) of Epping Forest Myennis octopunctata (Coquebert) This picture-winged fly has only been recorded from 3 sites since 1960 and was found at High Beach in 1950. It is thought to be associated with diseased trees or dead wood and adults are found on tree trunks 10-20 cm in diameter (Morris 1991). The larva of species of this genus have been found beneath the bark of old or diseased trees. Acknowledgements I thank Jeremy Dagley and Amanda Samuels for organising and participating in the Forest Insect Survey. David Henshaw introduced me to the Survey and has borne the brunt of sorting the Malaise trap material, while Mark Hanson prepared the earlier list and has added later records. The survey could not have been a success without the help of the participants and specialists; Mike Ackland, Peter Chandler, Jon Cole, Roy Crossley, Martin Drake, Peter Dyte, Peter Harvey, David and Diane Henshaw.
