Snake-flies, alderflies, lacewings and scorpion flies in Essex Chrysoperla species A This is segregate Ch.c.c.2 of Duelli, the 'slow motorboat' song morph sensu Henry (Henry et al. in press) and Ch. carnea sensu Cloupeau. National status: Not listed (Unknown - apparently Rare) Predicted county status: Rare/Endangered Distribution This pale-haired segregate is known in Essex only from Malaise trap samples collected in a small copse (The Birches) in the City of London Cemetery at Manor Park (London). Elsewhere in Britain it is known only from the garden at Buckingham Palace, Middlesex (Plant 2001). In spite of over 19,000 light-trapped carnea complex specimens now having been re- examined by the author, no further localities have come to light, though both lucasina and segregate B arc evidently widespread and numerous. On this basis, the status of Essex Rare is proposed. Habitat and ecology Unknown. Threats Not known. Chrysoperla species B This is segregate Cc4 of Duelli, the 'motorboat1 song morph sensu Henry (Henry et al. in press) and Ch. kolthoffi sensu Cloupeau. National status: Not listed (Common) Predicted county status: Ubiquitous/- Distribution Ubiquitous - considered likely to be present in every tetrad of the county, possibly even in every monad. Habitat and ecology Trees, scrub, isolated bushes, hedges, low herbage, roadside verges, ruderal vegetation and herbaceous borders in gardens have all produced larvae. Threats None perceived. 208 Essex Naturalist (New Series) 17 (2000)
