Report of the Essex Field Club for 2001-2002 Future focus Despite little real progress in establishing a centralised Biological Records Centre for Essex, the setting up of county-wide computerised databases for all major groups of plants and animals by the Club's Recorders is progressing much faster than originally anticipated, and in conjunction with our Web Site, these are rapidly becoming a virtual reality. If they are to be as interactive and useful as our Recorders would wish, however, an injection of external finance will be needed in the near future. The overriding priority for the Club, is to accelerate progress towards the acquisition of a permanent, fi nancially sustainable headquarters and home for its collections, a target that could rapidly become a reality if the Club were to receive a further substantial bequest. 4 Essex Naturalist (New Series) 19 (2002)
