Agreement with the London Borough of Newham AN AGREEMENT made the day of Two thousand BETWEEN THE MAYOR AND BURGESSES OF THE LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM (hereinafter called "the Council") of the one part and JOHN BATH of 34 Chestnut Avenue Billericay Essex CM12 9JF PETER ALLEN of 13 Churchgate Cheshunt Herts EN8 9NR and JEREMY DAGLEY of 82 Whitehall Gardens Chingford London E4 for and on behalf of THE ESSEX FIELD CLUB c/o Department of Life Sciences University of East London Romford Road London E15 4LZ (hereinafter called "the Club") of the other part WHEREAS 1. By the 1956 Agreement the Club and the Corporation agreed to establish the Governors and vested in them the Library and the General Collection and the Museum Fund 2. By virtue of the London Government Act 1963 and Orders made thereunder the Council are the successors to all the property rights and liabilities of the Corporation 3. The closure of the building in which the General Collection was formerly housed has meant that the Governors are unable to care adequately for it and no other registered museum has been able to offer the guarantees required by the Club as to the maintenance and accessibility of the General Collection 4. The Council and the Club have therefore agreed that die Governors should be dissolved and their assets and liabilities be distributed as hereinafter appears NOW THIS DEED WITNESSETH and it is hereby agreed as follows: 1. In this Agreement the following words and phrases have the meanings hereinafter assigned to them: "the 1956 Agreement" an Agreement dated the 21 st day of May 1956 made between me Corporation and the Club as amended by subsequent Agreements dated the 10th day of February 1970 and the 25th day of July 1984; "the Corporation" the Mayor Aldermen and Burgesses of me County Borough of West Ham; 6 Essex Naturalist (New Series) 19 (2002)
