EFC ANNUAL EXHIBITION 1 December 2001 PETER ALLEN The second Annual Exhibition and Social was again a great success with a very pleasant buzz about it, purposeful yet friendly, with plenty to look at and a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy meeting old friends. Over 85 people attended and there were 20 displays. For the Field Club itself, Peter Harvey exhibited the draft Club website on a laptop computer. Although first developed two years previously, the website was now being moved forward to being launched in the near future. Feedback was sought, with a request for ideas and contributions in the form of text and pictures. The colour cover and plates for the latest Essex Naturalist were displayed, and copies of the recently printed volume were distributed to members at the Exhibition. This method of distributing the Naturalist is very cost effective and saves the Field Club nearly £200 in postage. John Bath had a selection of the Field Club's publications on sale and was happy to receive subscriptions and welcome new members. Mark Hanson provided an insight into the Field Club's library with an exhibition of some of its more interesting and unusual books, together with some recently bound volumes of the Newsletter and Naturalist, and a copy of the recently privately published Witch, Willow, Flories and Beckling Woods of Northeast Essex by Ursula Broughton and Brian Wright. We are greatly indebted to Mary Smith for organising and providing the refreshments, a core contribution to the friendly atmosphere of the occasion. 12 Essex Naturalist (New Series) 19 (2002)
