Specimen photographed. New to Essex. From the photograph this appears to be a cracking specimen.
Probably a migrant/vagrant.
2480 Buttoned Snout Hypena rostralis Recorded from Chelmsford; Mistley; Rayleigh; Basildon;
Epping Forest; Copperas Wood; and South Woodford. In South Essex on 18 January, thirty adults
were found hibernating in outbuilding (DGD), and larvae were collected from Hop at Dovercourt
on 7 July and adults emerged on 31 July (CG, BG).
