Some Coleoptera of conservation interest recorded from north-east Essex (V.C.19) in 2002 JERRY BOWDREY Colchester Museums, 14 Ryegate Road, Colchester, Essex CO1 1YG Records of scarce beetles in the north-east of the county made during 2002 are presented. The national conservation status according to Hyman & Parsons (1994) and, where appropriate, the county status according to Hammond (1999, 2000) is given for each species. All records arc by the author unless otherwise indicated. Carabidae Badister dilatatus Chaudoir Nb Thorpe-le-Soken (TM1722) 28.vii, two at light. Apparently not previously recorded in V.C.19 (Hammond 2000). Platyderus ruficollis (Marsham) Nb. Colchester (TM0123) old sand pit, 13.ix. Histeridae Saprinus virescens (Paykull) RDBK. 2 at Alresford (TM0619) 15.vii (Peter Harvey). The first post-1969 Essex record according to Hammond (1999). Leptinidae Leptinus testaceus Muller Local. Several found in an old rodent nest whilst breaking up a concrete path at Thorpe-le-Soken (TM1722) 12.ii.2002. Staphylinidae Bledius tricornis (Herbst) Nb. Walton Naze (TM2624) 13.iv.2002 and Dovercourt cliffs (TM2631) 16.iv, both under seaweed. Geotrupidae Geotrupes mutator (Marsham) Nb. Dovercourt (TM2230) one in light trap, March. (Chris Gibson). Apparently not previously recorded in V.C.19 (Hammond 2000) Buprestidae Agrilus pannonicus (Piller and Mitterpacher) Na. Several adults and numerous emergence holes in oak trunks, Lexden (TL9625) 14.vi. Apparently new to VC 19 according to Hammond (2000). Dermestidae Ctesias serra (Fabricius) Nb. Thorpe-le-Soken (TM1722) 26.vi. on oak trunk at night. Anobiidae Ptinomorphus imperialis (L.) Nb. Colchester (TM0124) 17.v. beaten from Ivy. Cleridae Tillus elongatus (L.) Nb. Lexden (TL9625) 8.vi. one on oak foliage. Nitidulidae Cryptarcha undata (Olivier) Nb. Thorpe-le-Soken (TM 1722) 26.vi. numerous in sap run on oak at night. The first post-1969 Essex record (Hammond 2000). Cryptarcha strigata (Fabricius) Nb. Thorpe-le-Soken (TM 1722) 3.vii several in sap run on oak. Rhizophagidae Rhizophagus nitidulus (Fabricius) Nb. Mistley (TM1131) 23.xi one under bark of wind thrown Beech. New to V.C.19 according to Hammond (2000). Tenebrionidae Opatrum sabulosum (L.) Nb.
