Orthoptera and allied insects of Essex 2002 contains very little bare earth which this species needs. Tawny Cockroach Ectobius pallidus (Olivier) The only Essex record fox Ectobius pallidus is from Southend Sewage Works (TQ88). This colony was discovered by Adrian Knowles in 1995. The nymphs were discovered beneath partly buried paving stones at the top of a shaded bank (Payne 1996). This colony may have been in existence for many years, or may have been introduced with dumped soil or rubbish (Payne 1996). This site was thoroughly searched on the 13th July 2002 on an Essex Field Club trip, but unfortunately no E. pallidus individuals could be found. It is hoped that a field trip can be organised in 2003 to confirm whether this species is still present at its only known Essex location. Acknowledgements I would particularly like to thank J.P. Bowdrey, N. Harvey and P. Harvey for sending in a large quantity of records, not only for 2002 but for previous years as well. References BALDOCK, D.
