On the traffic island at a road junction west of the village is a splendid glacial erratic boulder of Carboniferous Limestone with fossil corals (110cm x 70cm x 60cm) and a sarsen stone (70cm x 70cm x 35cm).

The limestone boulder was brought to Essex from Derbyshire or Yorkshire by the Anglian ice sheet during the coldest period of the Ice Age. The sarsen stone originates in North Essex around the Stour Valley.
