Status: Country Park | Access: |
Summary: The site is part of the Lee Valley Regional Park, opened to the public in 2004. It was formerly industrial land south of the M25, owned by Royal Ordnance and used for the manufacture of military products. After closing the site was subject to complete decontamination by Royal Ordnance and capped with London Clay, and developed as a country park. Description: Invertebrate survey at the end of 2002 and during 2003 (Harvey & Hill, 2004) showed that both areas of remnant and new habitats supported an important invertebrate fauna, associated with the range sparsely vegetated, tall herbaceous and wetland habitats present. Reason for interest: Invertebrate survey recorded a total of 769 taxa, including a number which are rare in a national and regional context. Comment: |
