This bee is very rare in Essex, and believed to be much declined nationally. It used to be locally frequent in the lowlands of England and Wales, extending northwards to the Scottish Highlands. It is a ground nesting species of open woodland and grasslands, but nest burrows are not aggregated. It is strongly associated with yellow-flowered Asteraceae. References
