In White (1988) states that this picture winged fly is recently recorded from Kent, Norfolk, Surrey and Sussex, with old scattered English records as far north as Yorkshire. Falk (1991a) gives it as very local with about 10 known post 1960 sites with records including coastal locations, grassland, marshes and ruderal areas. The larvae are known to attack the flowerheads of the Sea Wormwood Artemisia maritima and Mugwort A. vulgaris. The fly may have low powers of dispersal and require sites where there has been a long continuity of host plants and it will be important to maintain strong populations of the host plant. References
