Species text
Cassida prasina is a small green and red tortoise beetle living on yarrow Achillea millefolium in grassland and disturbed ground. The larvae are probably free-living on the foodplant during the summer. It is widespread but very local in England and recorded in parts of Wales and Scotland. Grazing, cutting or some other disturbance, on a rotational basis, is needed to maintain open conditions (Hyman & Parsons 1992). It was found at Tollesbury by P.R. Harvey in 2004. There are only one or two other post-1970 Essex records (P. Hammond, pers. comm.). References
