Species text
The large dark green and red leaf beetle Chrysolina marginata is widespread but local. Old records suggest that this species formerly had a widely scattered distribution throughout Britain, but it has recently been recorded from only five, widely scattered, vice-counties (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). The beetle is found in well grazed, short-turf grassland, river margins and dry, sandy habitats. It is phytophagous, associated with yarrow Achillea millefolium, and also recorded from sea plantain Plantago maritima and wild mignonette Reseda lutea. Some disturbance, such as rotovation, on a rotational basis, will be needed to maintain open conditions. References
