Species text
There are about ten scattered post-1960 sites for this fly, which is recorded here new to Essex. The habitat is unclear; it has been swept from riverside vegetation, taken from scrub on limestone, upland grassland and in forest. The larvae of this family are generally believed to develop in decaying vegetable matter, including fallen leaves. Drainage of wetlands and degrading of river or streamside vegetation may threaten the species and managementment should maintain a rich and varied vegetation in wetlands and beside water bodies (status review in prep.).
