Information about this species is taken from a national status review in preparation. The fly has been found in England and Wales with most records for the Thames Estuary and East Anglia, but it is highly localised and infrequently recorded, except on the North Kent marshes where it is locally frequent. There are about thirteen known post-1960 sites (four within Kent). There are very few Essex records. Dicraeus scibilis has been found in coastal grassland, including that associated with saltmarsh and sand dunes and the larvae probably develop in grass seeds like related species, pupating in the ground beneath. Management should avoid overgrazing or scrub invasion and a loss of floristic richness and diversity. Grazing or cutting grasses before development of the larvae, probably at the end of July, would destroy larvae in seeds. References
