The dolichopodid fly Dolichopus signifer is listed as Endangered (RDB1) in Shirt (1987) and Vulnerable RDB2 in Falk (1991a). It is a western species known from Cornwall and Ireland, and recorded in Essex from wasteground, now mostly developed, by St Clements Church in June 1999, at Canvey Wick in 1999 and 2003, and post-industrial habitat at Pitsea in 2000 (Harvey, 2000e).
