Species text
This weevil is widespread but local in central and southern Great Britain. It is difficult to identify and may be confused with other members of the genus. Consequently, the exact status of this species is hard to assess. It is phytophagous, associated with Italian poplar, probably black poplar and doubtfully associated with aspen (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). The larvae probably develop in the catkins. This species is threatened by the felling of its host-trees. Gaps in the age structure of the poplar population should be identified and the continuity of the appropriate habitat ensured by suitable planting. References
