Species text
This is a widespread but localized fly, with about twenty known post-1960 sites scattered in England (ref: forthcoming national status review, listed as Elachiptera uniseta). It has been recorded from wetlands including fens, damp woods, gravel pits and coastal marshes. The biology is unknown. Larvae probably develop in decaying vegetable matter, though they may invade grass and reed stems. Adults are found in deep litter and are rarely caught by sweeping. A reasonably high water level and a range of vegetation types should be maintained using rotational management. References
