This weevil is very local, Only recorded in southern England and South Wales. In Hymans & Parsons (1992) it had been recently recorded from only two sites. It has been found in grassland on sand dunes, downland, sandy habitats and probably disturbed ground. It is phytophagous, associated with lesser dandelion Taraxacum laevigatum. The larvae probably feed in the capitula. Adults have been found under the leaves of the foodplant. Threats include the loss of habitat, particularly through afforestation, urban and holiday development, as well as the degradation of habitat by excessive disturbance of the vegetation through activities such as motorbike access, horse-riding and human trampling. Improvement and conversion to arable agriculture, and natural succession are further threats. Disturbance may be desirable to maintain the early successional stages and prevent the invasion of scrub.
