Species text
This is a widespread but local weevil of wetlands in the southern half of England. The species is phytophagous, associated mainly with pink water-speedwell Veronica catenata and blue water-speedwell Veronica anagallis-aquatica, and on the continent also with marsh speedwell V. scutellata and brooklime V. beccabunga. The larvae feed in galls on the inflorescences of the foodplants, with adults being recorded emerging in early July, early August and early October. Water tables should be maintained at high levels. Ditch clearance should be undertaken on a rotational basis and should aim to maintain the aquatic plant populations (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). References
