Lonchaea palposa is a small fly usually found in broadleaved woodland with old or diseased trees or dead wood. Larvae develop beneath the bark of various deciduous trees including birch, poplar and hawthorn. There are a few records scattered widely in England and Scotland with only nine known post-1960 sites.
