Species text
Malthinus balteatus is widespread but local in southern England. It occurs in damp broad-leaved woodland, especially carr. Adults have been recorded from the foliage of trees and shrubs, such as willow, hazel and lime, and are probably predatory (Hymans & Parsons, 1992). The larvae probably develop in dead twigs and small branches. Management should maintain water tables and continuity of appropriate dead wood habitat. References
