Species text
This is a picture-winged fly occurring in saltmarshes and saline shingle banks where the larval foodplant, Golden Samphire Inula crithmoides, thrives. The larvae induce galls in the flowerheads. There are scattered records on the coast of southern England from Dorset to Essex. It is highly restricted with seven known post 1960 sites in Falk (1991a), who states that its modern stronghold seems to be in the Thames estuary and this area is presently under a good deal of pressure from various threats.
