Species text
Neoascia interrupta was only added to this British list in 1981, but is now known to be locally frequent on the coastal marshes of Sussex, Kent and Essex with about 20 known post 1960 sites (12 in Essex) known to Falk (1991a). It occurs in ditches and ponds on brackish coastal marshes and inland fens and marshes. There appears to be some association with Typha, and lush ditches with fool's watercress Apium nodiflorum are particularly favoured. The larvae probably live in wet mud or vegetation as detritus feeders. A high, stable water level should be maintained and rotational ditch and pond management employed to ensure all successional stages are present every year. References
