Species text
According to Kirby (1992) Nysius graminicola was recorded in Britain only from heath on coastal dunes at Studland Bay, Dorset in the mid-1980s. Widgery (2004) comments that the bug has remained rare until the odd very recent record. He was extremely surprised to find it on 15 September 2003 at Tyttenhanger Gravel Pits (TL1905), a large area of waste ground containing a preponderance of mayweed (Matricaria). This is a ground dwelling insect characteristic of dry, often sandy, places elsewhere in western Europe. Related species feed on seeds and developing fruits of low plants. The favoured hosts of N. graminicola are not known. Adults overwinter in mainland Europe. References
