Species text
The small dark red spiny weevil Orthochaetes setiger is widespread but local, particularly in southern England, though noted as far north as southern Scotland. It occurs in short dry sandy or chalky turf, usually with sparse vegetation. It is phytophagous and polyphagous, with adults generally occurring at the base of plants. Some disturbance is needed to maintain open conditions and encourage early successional stages (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). References
